In 1986 Madame Soudry was offered the position of French teacher at Loreto College by Sr. Lourach and Sr. Ríonach, but unlike most teachers and students, her career with Loreto began in Harcourt street where the school had moved following a tragic fire in which six nuns perished. Madame Soudry, a born teacher, came to Loreto College from the Loire Valley armed with a love of art, music and language, an undergraduate degree in English and French alongside a Masters Degree.
Madame Soudry’s contribution to school life at Loreto College has been immense and is impossible to sum up as she was involved in so many aspects of student teaching and development. Whilst teaching French, Spanish and SPHE, she actively led French debates since 1991, French language exchanges, School tours, French film club, Camino Walking Trips, Mock exams and more recently Spanish debates.
Madame Soudry’s love of her students was always first and foremost and clearly evident throughout her time in Loreto College. She was known to be extremely kind and concerned about everyone, exceptionally thoughtful and always went above and beyond, for her students and her colleagues. Nothing went unnoticed when Madame Soudry was around.
After almost 40 years of doing what Madame Soudry was born to do, educating young women to embrace the love of language, art, research and debate, her time as a teacher at Loreto College, St Stephen’s Green has come to an end. From all in Loreto College, we would like to wish Madame. Soudry the very best on her retirement, she has been a wonderful colleague and will remain a life-long friend.
Bon Chance!
