After completing her studies in Math’s and Music at UCD, Ms. Smith began her teaching career in 1982 at the boarding school in Loreto Abbey Rathfarnham. It was here that her journey with Loreto continued, having been a secondary school student at Loreto Cavan. When that chapter closed, another one opened, and in 1999, Ms. Smith joined Loreto College, St. Stephen’s Green. For the past 26 years, this has been her teaching home, and what a gift that has been to all of us.

From the moment she arrived, Ms. Smith brought with her a presence, a sharp intellect, and a heart full of care. She has been the kind of teacher and colleague we all aspire to be compassionate, dedicated and full of good humor. As a Year Head, Ms. Smith was extraordinary. She walked with students through some of the most formative years of their lives, offering them not just academic guidance, but emotional support, encouragement, and steady reassurance.

Ms. Smith supported every corner of school life, music, sports, retreats, open nights, concerts and school trips. Her commitment to enriching student life has taken her far beyond the classroom. She travelled with the school to Kenya, to Kolkata, and accompanied countless groups of students on unforgettable trips, including the Fourth-Year adventure to Italy, which she organised. No matter the destination, she brought with her the same sense of purpose, compassion and care she brings to everything she does.

As we say farewell to Ms.Smith in her professional role and wish her a very happy retirement, we don’t say goodbye to her in our lives, she will be missed deeply as teacher and as a colleague, but for many she will remain a lifelong friend. We wish you the very happiest of retirements.
