Our vision is for a new multi-purpose sports hall that will provide an enhanced year-round indoor sports facility with a larger gym, modern changing rooms, brighter spaces with natural light and importantly for the environment, enhanced energy efficiency.
Retractable seating will be added turning our sports hall into a multi-purpose facility with the ability to accommodate the school community for school assemblies, prize giving's, open nights, 6th year graduations, transition year celebrations, and lots more.
A welcoming, caring and inclusive culture is central to the Loreto College ethos and ensures our girls feel supported to develop their unique personal strengths and interests.
Our vision is for social spaces that will help our students and wider school community build strong and lasting connections within their own year and across all student groups. By reducing steps and creating tiered seating we can modernize the dining hall and develop a multipurpose, creative and flexible social dining space that can be used at lunch time and throughout the day and evening for small creative classes, workshops, debates and talks by all year groups.
We are a forward-looking school in a rapidly changing world where access to new research and best practice helps our teachers understand more about how students learn. The curriculum is changing with more emphasis on active teaching and learning methodologies including project work, experimentation and demonstration which means our classroom spaces, design, layout and storage spaces need to change.
Learning together and from each other plays a big role in student life and encourages girls from all year groups to meet, build meaningful friendships and develop an inclusive and open culture. Our Assembly Hall brings students together for morning assembly, talks, lectures and music and needs significant modernization.
Loreto College, St. Stephens Green was founded by one of Ireland’s bravest female pioneers at a time when in Ireland and many other parts of the world women were not seen as intellectually equal to men and were prohibited from attending college. Since then, the school has taken pride in empowering women to follow their dreams, to think critically, to have a voice and to strive for a socially just world.
One of the very first women to graduate in science from UCD was Sr. Seraphia, who went on to teach in the school and inspire many students to follow in her footsteps until she retired and sadly perished in the fire in 1986. Our world is constantly changing, and more and more women are choosing to study Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and the Arts combining both their creativity and problem-solving abilities.
Our vision for the future includes the development of a brand-new STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) building on the existing campus. Future students will benefit from a brand-new creative learning environment that encourages and nurtures a love of STEAM subjects with modern classrooms, experimentation spaces and group work classrooms along with a brand-new library and green social spaces.
